Course Overview:

ISO 14001:2026 is the internationally recognized standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS). It provides organizations with a structured framework to manage environmental responsibilities, improve environmental performance, fulfill compliance obligations, reduce environmental impacts, and support sustainable business practices.

The ISO 14001:2026 Lead Auditor course equips participants with the knowledge and practical auditing skills required to assess an Environmental Management System (EMS) against the requirements of ISO 14001:2026. Participants will learn the principles of environmental management, risk-based thinking, the audit process, and how to plan, conduct, report, and follow up on first, second, and third-party EMS audits in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO/IEC 17021-1, where applicable.

This CQI and IRCA-approved course develops the competence needed to perform effective EMS audits, deliver value to organizations, and meet the formal training requirements for individuals seeking certification as a Third-Party EMS Lead Auditor.

By the end of this course you are expected to be able to get the:

Knowledge:

● Explain the purpose of an environmental management system and the business and societal benefits of improving environmental performance.
● Explain the role of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an environmental management system audit in accordance with ISO 19011.

Skills:

● Plan, conduct, report, and follow up on Environmental Management System (EMS) audits to determine conformity with the requirements of ISO 14001:2026, in accordance with the guidelines of ISO 19011 and the applicable requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1 for third-party audits.

Course Outline:

● Weekday (Mon-Fri)/Weekend (Sat-Sun) Course starts at 1030 hrs and ends approximately at 1830 hrs. Maximum attendance 12 delegates per tutor.
● Evening Course starts at 0830 hrs and ends approximately at 01:00 hrs. Maximum attendance 12 delegates per tutor. 
● Pre-course information is sent to delegates approximately a week prior to the beginning of the course (subject to the fee paid).
● The course is highly participative and will enable delegates to build on existing skills. Emphasis is based on practical application of assessment knowledge and skills. Realistic case studies allow delegates to apply skills and knowledge to all stages of the assessment process.

Criteria of Eligibility:

Some specific EMS knowledge and Min. 4 years working experience is required. This is an intensive course.

Before starting this course, students are expected to have the following prior knowledge:

a). Management Systems:
● The Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle.
● The core elements of a management system and the interrelationship between top management responsibility, policy, objectives, planning, implementation, measurement, review, and continual improvement.

b). Environmental Management
● The intended outcomes of an environmental management system:
● Enhancement of environmental performance
● Fulfillment of compliance obligations
● Achievement of environmental objectives.

c). ISO 14001
Knowledge Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 14001 and the commonly used environmental management terms and definitions, as given in ISO 14001, which may be gained by completing a Certified ISO 14001:2026 Foundation (EMS) training course or the equivalent.

d). Upon registration at the course in the beginning there will be a Pre-Questionnaire test to check the prior knowledge and understanding of the delegates.
